Flea Treatment

Adult fleas live on their host (your pet), but their eggs can be left both on your pet and in your pet's environment. The eggs that are left on your pet will fall off and accumulate in beds, couches, clothes, carpets, cars, and anyplace that your pet has been. One adult flea can lay 50 eggs per day. These eggs normally hatch in 1-2 weeks, after which the fleas emerge as larvae that can live in carpets (and bedding for up to 200 days before transforming into legless pupae. If conditions are still not quite right, the pupae can sit dormant for over a year before transforming into an adult! This means that many generations of flea eggs can accumulate and lead to a mass-infestation! We offer combination therapy in treating your pet for fleas. We offer all natural flea dips/shampoos that are citrus based, CapStar and Frontline Plus.

CAPSTAR (nitenpyram) is tablet that is given orally that provides fast relief within 30 minutes. A single dose should kill the adult fleas on your pet. CAPSTAR is also remarkably safe provides protection that can't rub or wash off. It is safe for both puppies and kittens four weeks and older, weighing two pounds or greater, as well as for pregnant or nursing dogs and cats. It lasts up to 24 hours.

Frontline Plus for dogs and cats is a monthly flea preventative that kills 100% of adult fleas on your pet within 18 hours and 100% of all ticks within 48 hours. Frontline Plus contains an insect growth regulator, S-methoprene, which kills flea eggs and larvae. It lasts for a full month against both fleas and ticks, and is waterproof.

We recommend the following during your pet's flea treatment with Kristy's Pampered Paws mobile pet grooming:

Collect bedding, rugs and throws and wash them in soapy water. Soapy water kills the eggs, larvae, pupae and adults. Vacuum everything. Upholstered furniture, carpets, cracks in the floor, bare floors, and use the attachments to get in the corners, behind doors, and anywhere else that dust collects. This will pick up most of the eggs, but larvae will latch onto carpet fibers and stick around.

After vacuuming, immediately remove the vacuum bag and seal it in a plastic bag for disposal. The remaining larvae can be dealt with by having the carpets professionally steam-cleaned (the steam will kill every stage of flea except eggs). Alternatively, you can shampoo the carpet with insecticidal carpet shampoo or have a pest control professional apply an infrared heat treatment to the carpet, which kills all stages of flea.If your pet spends much time outside, have your yard treated to prevent new generations. Continue your pet's monthly flea treatment. Remember, one adult flea can lay up to 50 eggs a day that can take up to a year to mature! You do the math!
